THE MOCK TEACHING THAT I PREFER
So far 4 classes of mock teaching are done and most of us have done our best. From the mock teaching that I have seen, I prefer Sir Denslee. He taught Ekonomi that day. This is because he came up with different kind of ways to attract the students to pay attention on what he going to teach. When he went in front of the class with his sugar papers, I realize that everyone was paying attention as he was sticking them on the board. Students who happen to be us feel curious as there are 5 sugar papers and all of them were close. Therefore, to find out what was inside, we tend to give our attention to Sir Denslee. Before he starts his lesson, he gave us notes in the form of booklet so that we are on track with him and not left behind. This is because there are empty spaces in the notes that require us to fill up as Sir Denslee is teaching. The words in the sugar papers wasn't big enough as those who were sitting at the behind unable to read it. So, he makes the students to involve in his class as he chooses the students randomly to read what was in the sugar paper. The materials in the sugar papers were attracting and interesting. In the notes itself there were worksheets to be done as homework. We can see that he really put a lot of effort to prepare the sugar papers and the notes. I like the way Sir Denslee speaks. Even he was struggling a little with his words but I guess Sir Denslee done his best.
WHAT THINGS SHOULD BE AVOIDED DURING MOCK TEACHING?
Since this is the first time most of us teaching in front of the a number of students, so definitely each of us make mistakes as we were nervous and worry on how we going to do the mock teaching. There will be so many questions playing in our mind but no matter what we have to overcome the fear and just do it. It is better for us to do the mistakes here rather than doing it during our practicum. So, from the mock teaching that I have seen, there are few things that should be avoided during the mock teaching.
Firstly, as a teacher, you shouldn't just read the slides. You should remember that the slides are only as a guidance for you to conduct your lesson. By you reading the slides, students tend to get bored as they able to read it by themselves too and you for sure not going to get the attention from your students. Therefore, as a teacher, try to minimize on reading the slides and use the points to help you to explain using your own words.
Secondly, as a teacher, you shouldn't keep looking at the watch as you are teaching. That might create negative impressions from your students such as they might think that you are rushing until they won't be asking you questions if they don't understand and they might think that you can not wait to go out from the classroom. I'm sure that punctually is important but it shouldn't affect your lesson and your students.
Next, as a teacher, you should speak louder so that all your students can understand what you are saying, asking and teaching. If you have a soft voice, students will not understand what you are saying and this might lend them not to participate in your class.
Lastly, as a teacher, you must make sure that you are well prepared before entering the classroom. This is to ensure that you know what you going to teach and what worksheets to be given to your students on that particular period of your class. If not, you don't exactly know what to do during your class. This indirectly gives negative impression to the students as they think that the teacher is not good enough and they tend to do their own work in the class.
