Cognitive School Of Thought

              Best ways to teach Mathematics? I guess that the best theory to be use to teach Mathematics will be the using the Cognitive School Of Thought theory. I choose this particular theory because Mathematics is a problem solving type of subject. Mathematics subject deals with formulas and calculation and this subject requires the students to use their brain to find out solutions for the questions that are given to them. 

                      Each chapter consists of formulas at least one to two depending on the chapter and there are many formulas from form 1 to form 5. Therefore, I'm as a future teacher will ensure that my students understands the formulas rather than just memorizing the formulas. This is because when they understand the formulas, they knows better which formulas to be used or apply according to the question whereas when students just memorize the formulas, there are 3 possibilities they might be facing. First possibility, they might forget which formulas to be used for which type of questions. Second possibility is where they tend to use the correct formulas for the question and the third possibility is where they might mix up with the formulas as some formulas look similar and tend to use the wrong formula for the question.

                            There are two ways Mathematics questions can be asked which require the Lower Order Of Thinking (LOTS) and Higher Order Of Thinking (HOTS). Students usually manage to answer questions which deals with LOTS. When comes to HOTS, some students manage to answers as they have the capabilities to understand the question and able to think out of the box where as some students stuck halfway through or they just left it blank as they don't know how to solve it. 

                             Therefore, as a teacher, I should try to overcome this type of situation from occur by getting my students to be familiar with the formulas and to understand it, teach them step by step to find out the solution rather than skipping the simple step by assuming my students able to understand, by giving them more exercise to practice on the chapters to give them a clear pictures of the chapters, I need to find various ways to get my students attention as Mathematics deals with calculation and students can get bored easily and lastly I must build a good relationship with my students. This to ensure that they are not afraid to clarify their doubts in Mathematics by asking me questions, or expecting me to teach them again that particular chapter.

                               As a conclusion, Mathematics is always refer to cognitive (brain-based skills). People actually need mathematics in their daily life. Mathematics will be an interesting subject if the students tend to enjoy it. 

                              

     

My Experience

            

                        The first day of Pedagogy class, the lecturer has instructed all of us to create a blog so that it can become a platform for all of us to express our flow of thoughts about the subject or about anything that we like. The lecturer actually has guide my friends on how to create the blog during the second day of class which I unable to attend due to my health condition as i when for a wisdom tooth removal. Therefore, two of my friends have guide me step by step on how to create the blog and taught me on how to use it too. Actually, I'm not a blogger type person but I think I can use this opportunity to learn something new. It is also the process of teaching and learning. 

   

                               Not only that, the lecturer also has introduced the Windows Live Writer where it is a software that is installed by the students to help them to use their blog when the WIFI services are not available or down. This software is very useful especially for those students who are staying in the hostel. The great part is where the students able to access to their blogs when the software is offline. Since, I unable to attend, my friends also helped me to install this software too.

                

                               Finally, it going to be challenging for me and all my friends since its our first time using a blog but i hope that all of us are able to write or post meaningful stuffs that can indirectly give benefit to others. I hope that I will manage to make my blog look interesting, creative, simple and easy to read.

                                Lastly, I'm in the process of being a teacher, I must make sure that I keep developing my knowledge of the subject matter that I teach, learn to use the hardware and software of the technologies since nowadays schools have been using the projectors in teaching and learning process, develop my general knowledge as well, try to apply new method of teaching that might attract my students to concentrate and participate in my class and developing a good relationship with my students. 

                               

                              

                          

Introduction About Me

               Hello everyone, let me introduce myself. My name is Darseni A/P Devaraju. I did my STPM and  now I'm studying at Unitar International University. I am doing Bachelor of Education and I want to major in Mathematics. I'm now in my third semester of first year of degree and I'm 21 years old. I choose this course because I like teaching and I love Mathematics. Currently, I'm giving tuition for few students  for Mathematics and Bahasa Malaysia. I have a few nicknames that my families and friends used to call to me such as "Papa", "Dar", "Seni", "Dharsh" and so on.

         My family consists of 4 members including me, my dad, my mum and a brother who is one year younger than me. My dad (60 years old) has a small stall and he sells chicken whereas my mum (57 years old) is a clerk in a Law Firm. My brother (20 years old) has finished his Foundation and now he is studying at University Technology Petronas. I like Indian foods especially when they serve with banana leaf and for sure I loves my mother's cook. My favorite drinks are milo, milk, carrot milk juice and 100 plus.

              

              As for philosophy and goals in my life. Who is a Teacher? A teacher is a person who teaches other to develop their knowledge and their soft skills. Teachers can also be educators, tutors, instructors, coach, trainers, lecturers, professors, mentors and counselors. This means teachers not only can be teaches in schools but they can teach anybody and anywhere they like depending the field that they have chosen. 

          As for me, I actually prefer to teach students in a small group about less than 20 students or something like home tuition. This is because can give extra attentions to my students especially those students who are weak. If in a small group of students, I can manage to teach, guide and develop students to perform better in their examination as I am able to identity their weakness. If in large group of students, it is hard to ensure that each students understands what I have taught. As we know that everyone are different and everyone have their own capabilities. Therefore, some teachers are able to teach in bigger group of students and some teachers can teach in smaller group of students.

                           

                   My wish is to open my own home tuition or tuition center in future but before that I would like to teach in a Private or Government school for a few years to gain experiences in teaching. If can I would like to teach in a rural area. It is also one of my wish. I know its really challenging and difficult to teach in rural area as the facilities, the conditions and the Internet connection is not as advanced as developed area but I still have the interest in teaching in rural area as long the students in the rural area are educated. This is because all students have the equal right in getting knowledge and the soft skills. 

                      As a conclusion, every teachers have their own method of teaching, aim of teaching and have their own expectations from their students. I wish I can be a teacher who is able to teach students and hope that they can understand what have been taught to them. Teachers should have a good relationship with the students. This is who I am and what I want to become in future.
