WHAT I HAVE DISCOVERED

During this course, I have discovered about the School Of Thought which divided into 3 such as The Cognitive School Of Thought, The Humanistic School Of Thought and The Behavioral School Of Thought. Each School Of The Thought has its own teaching model. Madam Ng has taught us on how to open a Blogger and a Window Writer that can help us to improve our writing and indirectly help us in the examination. I'm not sure about others but Padlet was a new for me as we all required to give our own response on spot and we able to see what others are typing as well.

Madam Ng also taught us about the Lesson Plan. She taught u what is a lesson plan, what are the elements should be in a lesson plan that are effective and how the lesson plan can help us in  our teaching. She made us to create our own lesson plan according to the majoring that we are taking and will be guiding us if we made mistake.

She even taught us on how to do good power point slides that are effective for our teaching and learning. To make sure that we understand what she has taught us and we are able to use it, she made us to come up with our own power point slides to evaluate us. Madam Ng taught us on the classroom management. She taught us on how to manage a classroom, what are the rules and regulations should a teacher set in a classroom whether the teacher is a classroom teacher or only a subject - matter teacher, how to approach the students that are weak, naught and has a discipline problems and how to conduct the classroom well.

She made the mock teaching as the second assignment for us. This assignment is not to make the students' lives difficult but to reveal them a clear picture about a live of a teacher. By doing the lesson plans, our own notes and worksheets, we have learned that life of a teacher is not as easy as how we thought, To become a teacher, we really must committed. I'm sure that due to our interest to become a teacher, we able to adapt it. All of us manage to do the lesson plans. Most of us have done the mock teaching according to the schedule that Madam Ng has prepared and we realize that the mock teaching creates fear and nervous but at the same time we were enjoying the mock teaching. We gained new experience through it.

Madam Ng is a person who doesn't like power point slides. That is the reason why we don't have any power point notes. The only notes that we receive from Madam Ng is about the School Of Thought. During her class, she will be giving the notes as she teaches where the notes indirectly came from the discussion that she had with us. It is up to us whether we want to wrote it or not. Therefore, if you missed her class means you have missed her notes as well. It is then depends to your friends whether they want to give it to you or not.

As a conclusion, Madam Ng has taught us everything and it is up to us now how we going to apply the knowledge that we have learned during our practicum or in our real teaching live. Lastly, I would like to wish all the best to my classmates for the upcoming examinations until that have fun during the Christmas holidays.

About Mock Teaching

THE MOCK TEACHING THAT I PREFER

So far 4 classes of mock teaching are done and most of us have done our best. From the mock teaching that I have seen, I prefer Sir Denslee. He taught Ekonomi that day. This is because he came up with different kind of ways to attract the students to pay attention on what he going to teach. When he went in front of the class with his sugar papers, I realize that everyone was paying attention as he was sticking them on the board. Students who happen to be us feel curious as there are 5 sugar papers and all of them were close. Therefore, to find out what was inside, we tend to give our attention to Sir Denslee. Before he starts his lesson, he gave us notes in the form of booklet so that we are on track with him and not left behind. This is because there are empty spaces in the notes that require us to fill up as Sir Denslee is teaching. The words in the sugar papers wasn't big enough as those who were sitting at the behind unable to read it. So, he makes the students to involve in his class as he chooses the students randomly to read what was in the sugar paper. The materials in the sugar papers were attracting and interesting. In the notes itself there were worksheets to be done as homework. We can see that he really put a lot of effort to prepare the sugar papers and the notes. I like the way Sir Denslee speaks. Even he was struggling a little with his words but I guess Sir Denslee done his best.

WHAT THINGS SHOULD BE AVOIDED DURING MOCK TEACHING?

Since this is the first time most of us teaching in front of the a number of students, so definitely each of us make mistakes as we were nervous and worry on how we going to do the mock teaching. There will be so many questions playing in our mind but no matter what we have to overcome the fear and just do it. It is better for us to do the mistakes here rather than doing it during our practicum. So, from the mock teaching that I have seen, there are few things that should be avoided during the mock teaching.

Firstly, as a teacher, you shouldn't just read the slides. You should remember that the slides are only as a guidance for you to conduct your lesson. By you reading the slides, students tend to get bored as they able to read it by themselves too and you for sure not going to get the attention from your students. Therefore, as a teacher, try to minimize on reading the slides and use the points  to help you to explain using your own words.

Secondly, as a teacher, you shouldn't keep looking at the watch as you are teaching. That might create negative impressions from your students such as they might think that you are rushing until they won't be asking you questions if they don't understand and they might think that you can not wait to go out from the classroom. I'm sure that punctually is important but it shouldn't affect your lesson and your students.

Next, as a teacher, you should speak louder so that all your students can understand what you are saying, asking and teaching. If you have a soft voice, students will not understand what you are saying and this might lend them not to participate in your class.

Lastly, as a teacher, you must make sure that you are well prepared before entering the classroom. This is to ensure that you know what you going to teach and what worksheets to be given to your students on that particular period of your class. If not, you don't exactly know what to do during your class. This indirectly gives negative impression to the students as they think that the teacher is not good enough and they tend to do their own work in the class.

Mock Teaching

Mock teaching is the 2nd Assignment for Pedagogy subject. My lecturer has made a schedule for us indicating the date and time for each of us to follow. I guess I was lucky because I'm in the first group for the mock teaching.

Since, I already know my date and time for mock teaching, I was busy doing my assignment. I was asked to prepare 3 lesson plans regarding the major subject that I took which is Mathematics. It wasn't easy to prepare a lesson plan because we need to consider many aspects before planning it.

Somehow I manage to do the lesson plan. Each lesson plan that I have done, I will e-mail it to my friend to go through whether my lesson plan is correct or not. I am thankful to her for helping me out. Once I have done the 3 sets of the lesson plan including the worksheets and notes, I have choose one of the lesson plan to conduct my mock teaching. I was preparing for my mock teaching as I plan to teach on Form 2 Directed Number.

I was really worried and nervous for the mock teaching because I only have experience giving tuition to individual students and not in front of a big group so I am sure that it s going to be a great challenge for me. I am a type of person who gets nervous easily if I had to stand in front of a big crowd whether to give a speech or presenting anything. Therefore, to overcome my nervous and fear, I guess I need to practice teaching at home before I teach on the date and time schedule by my lecturer.

I have to photocopy 10 notes and 6 worksheets to distribute it to my students who happen to be my own classmates on that particular day. I hope that they will be giving response to me by asking questions and answering my questions. I will make sure that I will also give full support to my friends when they are doing their mock teaching. We need to help each other to ensure that everyone does well.

I hope that the mock teaching goes well according to the schedule and I wish my entire classmates ALL THE BEST and hope they will do well.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

When there are rules and regulations everyone know that there is a limit on the particular things that they are doing. Everyone dislikes rules and some tend to just break it without caring about the consequences. Everyone should realize that following rules and regulations ensure that they are discipline person.

If I become a classroom teacher for Form 1 students,I definitely will set few rules for the students to follow to ensure the effectiveness of my classroom. Below are the rules and regulations I would like to set for my students.

PUNCTUALITY. Students must be punctual to school and class. This is to ensure that they are not missing any notes and lessons taught by the teachers. Practicing to be punctual will be a good for their future because they will be on time for their appointments, meetings or work.

BE NEAT. Students must make sure that they are wearing their tie and the name tag as they are in the school. This is to show others the identity of the school. Students also must make sure that their nails are short. Boy students should keep their hair short and neat and as for the girl students who have long hair, they must always tie the hair neatly. This is to ensure the students' hygiene and neatness.

KEEP THE CLASSROOM CLEAN. There should be a daily duty roster and students must make sure that they are following it. This is to ensure the classroom is clean, hygiene and it will create a good environment for them.

RESPECT THE TEACHERS. When the class is going on all the students should listen to what the teachers are teaching, saying and explaining. Respect the teachers as teachers are older than them. Know your limit as student and behavior well.

DO NOT FIGHT OR RUN AROUND THE CLASSROOM. This is to ensure the safety of the students. It also prevents them for getting injured in the classroom.

The above rules and regulations that I have set for the students are easy to follow as it gives benefit to them. Complicated rules make the students not to follow the rules. As a conclusion, rules and regulations are compulsory for everyone to ensure they are on right track for their present and future lives.

Methods To Make The Power Point Presentation Effective For Teaching And Learning

Since I didn't attend the class last week so I have refer to Jasmine to know the seven methods to make the power point presentation effective for teaching and learning. How to ensure that we as teachers provide an effective power point slides to deliver our knowledge to the students.

Firstly, we should choose proper and suitable colour tone for our power point slides. This is to ensure that students are able to read the words in the slides clearly. If we use too dull and striking colour tones, students might have difficulties to read the slides. This will indirectly influence them not to pay attention in the classroom. Therefore, to avoid that, teachers must use only few suitable colour tones for their power point slides to make sure that they have the attention of their students.

Next, teachers are advice to use simple animation. This is because complicated or too many animation can cause the students to get confused with what they are viewing on the screen and they tend to lost concentration. Therefore, teachers should provide a simple and only use few types of animation to attract the students to look at the power point slides and also to get the content of it, Teachers can even include simple sound effect for their animation as it can prevent the students from not to fall asleep.

Thirdly, teachers must avoid themselves from putting a lot of information in one single slide as shown in the picture above. This is because students can easily get bored or sleep in the classroom if they view all the slides with long paragraphs or with long essays. So, to attract the students to focus and participate in the class, teachers should minimize putting everything in one slide. Teachers have to prepare slides with important  points or important sentences only. Let the students write down the elaboration about the points ad the teachers explain in front of the class. It is one way a teacher may use to ensure that the students are paying attention in the class and also to prevent them from sleeping. Therefore, teachers should provide slides with the main points so that it is easier for the teachers to explain and for the students to understand even better.

Not only that, teachers may include videos and pictures in their power point slides. This is also another way for the teachers to gain their students attention. This is because students tend to understand better when they watch a video or view pictures regarding what they are learning. It is like opening their mind or giving them a clear picture of what they are learning about to ensure that the students can absorb the knowledge. If they understand what they watch or what they view, they tend to remember it more that what the teachers have spoken.

Teachers also should include the topic of the subject they want to teach and their names on the first slide of the power point. This is to make the students to know what topic they are going to learn today and to help them to prepare themselves before the lesson starts. Since the slides are prepared by the teacher itself, it is advice for the teachers to mention "prepared by"  to proof that they are the one who does the power point slides.

Right and suitable font must be used by the teachers when they are preparing the slides. This is because a teacher has many students in his or her classroom, so to ensure that all the students especially those students who are seating at the back of the class are able to read the slides without any problem. Therefore, teachers should estimate size of the class before deciding on which font and size of the font to be used to do the power point slides. This also to ensure that students at the back give their attention and gain the lesson of the day.

Lastly, teachers should know how to present their power point slides. Teachers must avoid themselves from just reading the slides without giving a clear explanation and expecting the students to understand everything that they have spoken. Teachers should only take the main points and explain it to the students so that students understand better. Teachers are advised to communicate with the students as they are explaining in front of the class to get their students focus. Teachers must realise that the slides are only as their reference to conduct their lesson in the class.

As a conclusion, these are the seven methods that a teacher should consider before preparing the slides. As for me, it actually depends on the teacher itself how they want the slides to be as long as the students understand what the teachers have presented, what the teachers have spoken or taught and most important matter is the students gain knowledge from the power point slides.

The Important Part In A Lesson Plan

The important part in a lesson plan is the Learning Objective. Learning Objective means what a teacher expect the students to achieve once the teacher taught the lesson. For an example, a teacher teaches the students how to do addition and subtraction involving numbers in Mathematics. Learning Objective from the above example is students are able to solve questions that are given to them which involving addition and subtraction numbers.

I think the Learning Objective is important because Learning Objective is actually a highlight for the teachers to ensure that they know exactly what the students will able to do once they have taught the lesson. This will guide the teachers to know the best ways to deliver their lesson to their students so that the teachers can achieve their Learning Objectives.

If teachers don't know the Learning Objectives of the lesson they teach means the teachers won't know what to expect from the students once they finishing teaching. Therefore, the teachers tend to give their students homework and leave the classroom without knowing whether the students understand everything that have been taught to them. The Learning Objective will indirectly lead the teachers to know whether the students are able to understand what they have been taught today in classroom.

Without the Learning Objective, the teachers won't get a clear picture on how to teach their students. Teachers won't able to create ways to deliver their lesson to their students. This is because when teachers have the Learning Objective, the teachers know what they want their students to achieve or able to do. Therefore, teachers will find various types of methods to teach their students until they students understand the lesson that have been delivered to them. If the Learning Objective are achieved by the teachers means the techniques that the teachers have used work out.

As a conclusion, the Learning Objective is important in a a lesson plan rather than others because Learning Objective determine what students are able to do what the teachers taught them. The Learning Objective indirectly helps the teachers to choose the best ways to deliver the lesson. The Learning Objective also helps the teachers to know their students's understanding on the lesson that they taught. It will also helps the teachers to improve better their ways of teaching if the Learning Objective are not achieved and helps teachers to upgrade even better the methods of delivering the lesson to students if the Learning Objective are achieved.

Lesson Plan

My lecturer entered the classroom and shoot us questions such as, Do you know what is a lesson plan? Have you ever seen a lesson plan? Have any one of you worked in a kindergarten and you are required to do a lesson plan? Some of us answered yes and some said no.

Then the lecturer asked us, What do you think a lesson plan should content? All of the students including me got excited by telling her many elements that we know such as learning outcomes, reflection, introduction, teaching methods, conclusion, topic, subject, activities, performance, achievement and so on.

The lecturer then asked us to form 11 groups and create our own lesson plan. All of us were busy planning the lesson plan while the lecturer was walking around and monitoring our work. The lesson plans have to be posted in the UNIEC. Once all of us have done the submission, the lecturer open the lesson plan that have been send by each group and started questioning them for the reasons they used those elements.

My group was questioned about how to evaluate the students whether they are the beginners, intermediate or expert level since we haven't enter the classroom yet. At first we were mumbling but somehow we manage to answer the question by saying that teachers need to assume their students level before they enter the classroom so that they know how to deliver their lesson and knowledge to their students. At the end all the groups have helped each other as all of them could the lecturer's questions.

Once all the lesson plans have been presented, the lecturer shoot again with questions by asking among the 11 lesson plans, which lesson plan do we thought the better or the best. Some were saying that their lesson plan are better than others and some tend to think that others lesson plan are better than theirs. Then the discussion goes on until the lecturer was satisfied with all our answers.

As a summary, what I exactly learned today was what is a lesson plan, what are the elements that should be in a lesson plan according to the subject and how many types of lesson plans are there. As for me, I prefer a lesson plan which is simple, direct forward, clear and easiest for all the teachers to do because as we know nowadays teachers are burden with all of work especially the administration work. The lecturer explained that it is better for all of us to do more detail lesson plan during our practicum because it somehow will reveal what kind of teaches are we and help we to be more organized. She continued that once we are graduated, its up to us how we want to the lesson plan. Therefore, the lesson plan is important for a teacher as it acts as a guideline to make sure that the teachers and on track.
